There are many ways to speed up windows 2000.
1. One of the easiest ways to remove application running at startup is to click your start menu, select programs and select the startup section of the menu. To remove these programs from starting up at boot simply right click them and select delete. This will not delete the actual program; just stop it from running at boot time. You can always manually start it. It would be a good idea to leave your virus scanner in this section though.
2. through general use and creating and moving files around, your hard drive can get fragmented. It is a good idea to routinely run Disk Defragmenter to fix these errors. Just go to your start menu, programs, accessories, system utilities and select Disk Defragmenter. Select the drive you want to defragment and select analyze, then Defragment.
3. Another way to optimize your system is to go to your Control Panel and select your System Properties menu. Once there go to your device manager, and locate your hard disks under Disk Drives portion and expand the list. Once you locate your hard drive, right click it and select properties. Once in properties, select the policies tab and make sure that ‘Enable Write Caching’ is enabled.
